Matthew J. GRAEBER, Godships. Several UFO researchers have discovered the remarkable similarities betwee today's UFO experiences and Biblical accounts involving visions and miracles, and simultaneous observations of unusual aerial phenomena. Ezekiel's encounter with a mysterious flying wheel is a classic example of one such event - as is the appearance of the great pillar of cloud that led Moses and his followers during the time of their flight from Egypt. pp.3-8

About ten years ago, I coined the term "UFOOLOGY" in a letter to James "Jim" Moseley, who is the pubisher and editor of the nation's longest-running newsletter on the UFO enigma. Jim's Saucer Smear is legendary as a gossip and scandal sheet that has been exposing the intellectual short-comings and indiscretions of the self-appointed UFO experts, some of their "star-witnesses" and, of course, the UFO group leaders that have endorsed the rantings of these individuals pp.9-12

Peter BURGEROrgan Snatchers
For almost ten years a horrible story has haunted the world's media: in Latin America children are robbed of their kidneys and corneas for the benefit of wealthy Americans. On closer examination these horror stories turn out to be based on rumours and legends. Organ-napping: the contemporary version of an age-old and universally known legend.

The Godlings Descend
In Iudalsm, Christianity and Islam, God may represent the overwhelming power of lovlngklndness, but he Is also the primordial creative force, the prlmum mobile, and the control ler of all things. And so - as the canonical texts make plain - God Is also the source and ultimate embodiment of all evil. In the second part of this series, PETER BROOKESMITH shows how the ambiguities of the omniscient Master of the Universe are reflected In UFO lore

Matthew J. GRAEBERA Fatal Illusion
The image of the alien in UFO culture has generally been dominated by an entity with a large, bald head. Usually the being is small compared to humans. Often the limbs and torso are described as thinner or more slender, but the more closely universal rule is that such aliens are never fat or obese. Current convention labels all approximations to this stereotypical ufonaut with the term Greys. Ostensibly this is because of the greyish skin tones usually being associated with this body type. In practice, absence of this defining trait does not inhibit use of the label so long as a big bald head appears somewhere in the description.

Between late November and mid-December 2001, the UFO UpDates Internet mailing-list saw an exchange of postings regarding the UFO sighting made by Maj. Robert White on his July 17, 1962 flight in an X-15. This provides a case study of belief, the interactions between believers and sceptics, how evidence is presented, and how it is accepted or rejected.

Peter BROOKESMITHThe History Man: Wittgenstein's Lion and the Stories of Roswell
Better-bred readers may have wondered why it has become compulsory to mention the name of a little-known American from Minnesota in every issue of this illustrious organ. Here, perhaps - or perhaps not - is a partial explanation, in an industrious musing by His Grace, the Duke of Mendoza

Matt GRAEBERUfoology: As Much Fun as a Barrelful of Aliens
About ten years ago, I coined the term "UFOOLOGY" in a letter to James "Jim" Moseley, who is the pubisher and editor of the nation's longest-running newsletter on the UFO enigma. Jim's Saucer Smear is legendary as a gossip and scandal sheet that has been exposing the intellectual short-comings and indiscretions of the self-appointed UFO experts, some of their "star-witnesses" and, of course, the UFO group leaders that have endorsed the rantings of these individuals

Michael McCELLAN, Matthew GRAEBERAztec, That Terribly Romantic Yet Horribly Aromatic Desert Bloom is in Flower Again!
The 1948 Aztec, NM downed UFO retrieval story is one of saucerdom's legends that seems to have defied all the attempts to explain it away as a clumsy and very obvious hoax. However, the many "resurrections" of this story, n various forms, is just about as remarkable and interesting as the original tale itself. In fact, one fellow on the Internet describes it as the "Dracula" of saucerdom which simply will not die no matter how many stakes are driven through its hear

Frank John REIDCurtis Peebles, the X-15 and Angela’s Ashes
I'd just dragged myself through Frank McCourt's depressing "Angela's Ashes" when I read Curtis Peebles's "The Case of the Vanishing X-15 Pilot." I grew up Catholic in the 1940s and 50s, in an American Church that rather envied the holiness of Ireland. And so I was able to understand, for example, McCourt's reminiscence of rushing around Limerick, tearing one page out of an issue of "John O'London's Weekly" which his employer had earlier distributed, because that page discussed birth control. And so I was able to understand Peebles's article.
